Global Heft

China has embarked on the largest mass urbanization in history, a monumental migration from country to city that will leave China with nearly a billion urbanites by 2025 and an astonishing  number of  cities with populations over 1 million. This is the extent of  a global heft , a scale of transformation that is hard to believe , but its already happening !
Some of these  cities are already  global powers, from top-ranked Shanghai to manufacturing dynamo Shenzhen; others, from Fuzhou to Xiamen, were little more than provincial backwaters in the 20th century but are  household names in the 21st, powering the global economy not just through their sheer size but also through their pulsing drive.
Therefore , it is not difficult to agree ,that  the cities of the future will increasingly  be  Mandarin- speaking  -- even more than you realize !
Do not hesitate , learn mandarin !
2 things happened today .

First , I left  the house with the gas stove on , at maximum level.  Of course , the soup that I  was heating up was reduced to black carbon ! The next thing that could have happened might be the  steel pot would be burnt red-hot and then .........house might have been burnt down  !

Thanks to a neighbour who acted promptly when the  obnoxious fumes( from the burnt pot together with its content + the inner rubber seal on the pot cover))  reached her 2 houses away . Her investigation to the source of the odor led her to my house ,thick fumes were excaping through the kitchen window panes by then  . Very luckily , she got me on the phone and we rushed back in time before anything worse could happen . When I opened the door  , the fumes were already filling up the whole house !  I guess the burnt organic smell will  be with us for the next few days !

I am just grateful that nothing untoward happened , the pot is easily replaceable !

2) The house Astro Channel was giving  some problem . At the favourite channel that I usually watch , a message suddenly popped out  : " COPY PROTECTION FAILED "
Hubby called up Astro technical support and  the next thing was we spent one and a half hour following the instructions of the technician .Exasperated  but we didnt have a choice , No TV means " boredom " for us two ! watching TV is our main past time for the night !

Look East - Look to Korea !

We have always been impressed by the  progress & advancement in  many fields  that 3  of our Asian counterparts have achieved. namely China , Japan and Korea . There is still a lot to be learned from them . Evidently , our 30 year old  Look East policy is still   relevant of now  and will stay relevant for  many more years to come.

Personally , I marvel at  South Korea , how  the country  has enjoyed accelerated   progress to the present state .
Few societies have changed as rapidly as that of Korea . Not too long ago , the great majority of the people  were poor peasants . Today, it has evolved into a dynamic , urbanised and highly industrialised  country with many sectors to boast of . For an example , educational standard  is one of the highest in Asia , in fact  in the world . Seoul , its capital, has emerged from the devastation of the war to be one of the most vibrant metropolitan centres. I would love to visit Seoul  one day !  I read that it can rival HK , LA ,Tokyo and many more !

Korea is also gaining a reputation as a plastic surgery mecca, a place where doctors are highly skilled and the technology is top-notch. I hear that people from all over the world come to have their noses tweaked, chins thinned  , fat removed and also to transform any features that they so wish ! People are  naturally vain ! But if there is a real need , such as the case of a Malaysian woman who was disfigured by acid , this is the place to come to . Think of it as legitimate business , plastic surgeons need to earn a living too !

Liquid Chlorophyll - alfafa

My good friend has been bragging  about how GREAT this" wonder nutritional  drink" is . And I had to take her seriously because she is a picture of good health herself . This alfafa " evangelist " has boundless energy at the age of 60 something , with clear complexion and is " hyperactive"  being  on her two feet in all her waking hours!  According to her , if she ever gets sick ,  an increased dose of alfafa will get her back on her feet  again ! Doctors have no chance to earn her money , it seems !

I   purchased 2 bottles from her this morning   after hearing that it can benefit me in 2 areas ( thyroid function &  hypertension ) .

To begin with

I took 2 tbsp of the drink 2 times today ( 12/9/2012 )

Some more......... Gen Y & Z .....

Generation Y,

Echo Boomers or Millenniums

Born: 1977-1994

The largest cohort since the Baby Boomers, their high numbers reflect their births as that of their parent generation..the last of the Boomer .
Gen Y kids are known as incredibly sophisticated, technology wise, immune to most traditional marketing and sales pitches...as they not only grew up with it all, they’ve seen it all and been exposed to it all since early childhood.
 • Gen Y members are much more racially and ethnically diverse and they are much more segmented as an audience aided by the rapid expansion in Cable TV channels, satellite radio, the Internet, e-zines, etc.

 • Gen Y are less brand loyal and the speed of the Internet has led the cohort to be similarly flexible and changing in its fashion, style consciousness and where and how it is communicated with.
• Gen Y kids often raised in dual income or single parent families have been more involved in family purchases...everything from groceries to new cars. One in nine Gen Yers has a credit card co-signed by a parent.

Generation X

I read something interesting today .

 Generation X Born: 1966-1976

Sometimes referred to as the “lost” generation, this was the first generation of “latchkey” kids, exposed to lots of daycare and divorce.
Known as the generation with the lowest voting participation rate of any generation, Gen Xers were quoted by Newsweek as “the generation that dropped out without ever turning on the news or tuning in to the social issues around them.”
Gen X is often characterized by high levels of skepticism, “what’s in it for me” attitudes and a reputation for some of the worst music to ever gain popularity.

First taste of korean food

Had my first taste of korean food  just now , a joyful & memorable evening out with 3 friends .
This is really a great achievement for me , for one who is ultra picky on  food . There is a whole list of foods that I have never tried and will not try . Weird ? so it is ! but I cant help it , the habit is unexplainable . I am puzzled myself . Most of the time I blame it on  the strong sense of smell that I am gifted , albeit to my own disadvantage in the food sense .

Food That I Dont Eat

Meat  - all except chicken , pork , venison .
Dairy Products ( milk , cheese ..... )
Salad dressings , all white creamy stuffs...
AND
Any other food(s)  that I have not tried before !
